A piece made for Starbucks’ Admiral location in West Seattle. I really liked the idea of incorporating a subtle breaking of gender roles, as divers are usually males, sirens are usually females, so combining them as one figure was an important part of the design. The seaweed element can be viewed as a Pacific Northwest kelp forest, or a coffee plant dropping coffee cherries for the diver to forage.
I really enjoyed the challenge of juxtaposing the Starbucks/coffee theme with Seattle and it’s history and culture. Plus, it was an excuse to break out my dusty realism skills. Thanks for having me, Starbucks!
